The vertical countercurrent screen with parts in motion out of the water is suitable for many applications, in particular it is installed on medium and large size civil or industrial wastewater treatment plants and complies with macro-screening requirements. This screen consists of a sturdy frame in cold formed steel plate, a bar assembly forming the filtering screen, a comb moved by a double chain, a comb cleaning system for the screenings discharge and a gear motor.
The comb has an alternate movement, on its upward stroke, it is in contact with the screen and removes the screened material, while during its back stroke the rake is far from the filtering screen. The double chain motion is operated by a duly sized gear motor and the protection against overloads is ensured by standard dynamometric devices or, on request, by electronic load limiting devices. The peculiarity of this screen consists in the countercurrent cleaning. The cleaning rake operates on the channel side downstream the screen. This kind of construction avoids that the screened material wedges itself between the lower part of the screen and the cleaning rake, thus eliminating the risk of any clogging. Moreover, since the chains, bearings and any moving parts of the screen are positioned out of the water, considerable reliability and a long life of the parts are thus ensured.
The standard construction is with carbon steel plates and sections protected by hot dip galvanization. On request, it is possible to have the protection with epoxy painting cycle or the screen made in stainless steel.
